How It Works
What to expect from mediation.
Mediation is a structured but flexible process. Understanding what to expect can make it easier to decide whether it's right for your situation.
Initial enquiry
You get in touch — by email or through the contact form. There is no obligation and no cost at this stage. Libby will respond within one business day to discuss your situation briefly and help you understand whether mediation is likely to be useful.
Individual conversations
Before any joint session, Libby speaks with each party separately. These individual conversations — sometimes called 'pre-mediation meetings' — allow each person to speak openly, ask questions and understand the process. They are confidential.
The mediation session
The joint mediation session brings both parties together with Libby as a neutral facilitator. The session is structured but not formal — the aim is to create a space in which both parties can be heard and work constructively towards a resolution. Sessions typically last between three and eight hours, depending on the complexity of the dispute.
Agreement and next steps
If the parties reach agreement, this can be recorded in a written settlement document. Mediation is voluntary — no one is forced to agree to anything. If agreement is not reached on the day, the process can continue, or parties may choose to pursue other routes.
